The Town of Evans Honors Its Veterans

This past Memorial Day celebration on May 27th, was made extra special for the Town of Evans’ honored veterans. The town departments’ hallway, which has housed pictures of our veterans, had remained without a name since it was started by VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary #5798 about five years ago. After the Memorial Day Ceremony on the steps of Town Hall, Town Supervisor Mary K. Hosler unveiled “The Hall of Veterans”, along with the five Military Services seals of the Armed Services.

“The Hall of Veterans” currently has hundreds of veterans photos from all branches of the service. For any Evans resident who either is a veteran, or had a relative in the service, the opportunity to add your/their photo may be added to the Hall of Veterans free of charge. Simply drop off a photo of the veteran to the Supervisor’s office. The Ladies Auxiliary will purchase a frame for it and the engraving will be done free of charge.

Each photo is also decorated with a ribbon – White for a combat veteran and Black for a veteran killed in action.

In addition, the Town of Evans is hosting a veterans benefits information get-together on Monday June 11th, at 6 PM at the Evans Senior Center on the corner of Route 5 and Sturgeon Point Road in Derby.  Supervisor Hosler and the Evans Veterans committee are hosting the event, and VA healthcare and other veterans’ benefits provided by US Department of Veterans Affairs will be made available.  There will also be a special pinning ceremony to commemorate all Vietnam Veterans on that day.

If you have any questions about contributing to the Hall of Veterans, please contact the Supervisor’s office at (716) 549-5787.
