The Evans Senior Center first Meet and Greet this Saturday was a huge success! What a great turnout! Delicious goodies were served and some talented instructors for quilting, crocheting, tee-shirt quilting and watercolor painting also showed some samples of projects soon to come to the center.
Evans Town Supervsor Mary Hosler welcomed Saturday’s visitors to the Senior Center and introduced the new Director, Veronica Sullivan, who spoke briefly about some of the new and upcoming activities at the Center.
The Senior Center’s mission is to help seniors remain in their own homes through active participation, socialization, recreation and nutrition in the community.
The Center’s nutrition program, which started off through the Erie County Senior Services Department, is still going strong twenty-four years later, five days a week. Programs have been more health and fitness related at the Center, featuring activities such as line dancing, strength, stamina, and stay fit exercise, to support the mission of having a happy, healthy, and energetic group of seniors.
Our seniors have remained the backbone of the community. Many of them not only have their names etched in the charters of the organizations of our town, but also remain active through volunteer opportunities that ensure the community groups and organizations sheer existence.
